in an Oil Mill

another great post from Yle with

  learn italy

Mother of four, sweet and lovely, her smile is conquering friends from all over the world. A native from the Salento, this charming blondie Mamma teaches Pugliese cuisine in an oil mill located between Brindisi and Lecce.    OLIVA is the name of this cooking school where students can easily learn the traditional local cuisine at “KmZero”* where only seasonal food is prepared.  The atmosphere of her cooking classes is very friendly and informal.

66During the cooking class you will also meet the Taurino family who own the oil mill and share a glass of wine with them.see their web site This gorgeous oil mill completes this magnificent experience of food, wine, and oil during which the Oil and Wine expert, explains a lot of interesting things on the “gold of Puglia”. This oil mill, with 16.000 olive trees, Agricola Taurino (, produces an amazing extra virgin olive oil that they ship everywhere and that Mamma Anna incorporates in all of her recipes (cakes included). Simple yet delicious recipes that guests will taste at the end of the class, paired with some great indigenous wine. SONY DSC Mamma Anna’s cuisine uses no scale, she cooks with the sensation” she says. Having cooked since she was a little girl, she loves all things genuine from pasta to vegetables, to some special sea food dishes, starters and so much more. In her kitchen there is always joy and many laughs. She has been cooking all her life; having raised 4 children, she really knows how to make everybody happy.     Classes offer a  selection from a wide range of traditional dishes, only using local ingredients bought at the local food market, where she makes a first choice selection of the best seasonal products. mmmm Beautiful, smiling and simply “Mamma Anna”  she can seriously be the perfect cooking instructor for those friends who want to learn the real “cucina povera” Pugliese. Cooking classes combining Mamma Anna’s love and passion for her family recipes with a genuine taste of Puglia warmth and simplicity.

To book a cooking class with Mamma Anna: “While you are in Puglia have create other once in a life time experiences.    Yle did this for me and I still talk about it to anyone who will listen…”  Lee Laurino
